Throughout their elementary years at Leap4ward School, students explore a comprehensive math curriculum that builds progressively as they advance.
Beginning with numbers and operations, they learn to compose and decompose numbers, understand place value, and develop skills to compare and order numbers, all foundational for later math studies. They are also introduced to fractions, decimals and Percent, where they work with parts of a whole and learn to compare simple fractions as they move through the grades.
Students engage in computation practice across the years, working on addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division within real-life problem-solving contexts. They use various tools, such as mental math, manipulatives, and visual models, to develop a flexible and practical approach to problem-solving. Algebraic reasoning introduces them to patterns, multi-step problem-solving, and real-world relationships using tables and descriptions, concepts that grow in complexity each year.
Geometry lessons evolve to include identifying and classifying shapes, calculating area and perimeter, and understanding two-dimensional figures. Measurement topics cover appropriate units for length, weight, and volume, as well as solving time-based problems, with students' abilities expanding each year. In data analysis, they learn to collect, organize, and interpret data through tables, dot plots, and bar graphs, a skill they refine progressively.
Personal financial literacy also plays a key role, teaching students about saving, spending, credit, and the relationship between work and income. By the time they complete elementary school, students have developed essential problem-solving skills and a practical understanding of how math applies to everyday life.
“94% of our 5th-grade students who took the Credit by Exam (CBE) successfully accelerated a full grade level in math!”
98% of our 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders score 90% or higher on their STAAR tests
100% of our students show improvement in consecutive STAAR tests, reflecting our commitment to continuous progress.
